Panasonic FS-A1

he Panasonic FS-A1 is an MSX2 computer with 64kB RAM. It was available in black and in red It also have a sister in white sold by Toshiba they lack a diskdrive, which its brother the Panasonic FS-A1F does have. The main board is identical to that of the FS-A1 MKII.


The Panasonic FS-A1FM MSX2 is similar to the FS-A1F but has a built-in modem with firmware. On the back of the computer, there is a switch to enable the modem software

The FS-A1FX is the simplest MSX2+ by Panasonic and lacks a built-in MSX-MUSIC. It does contain the A1 Cockpit internal software thats also present in the FS-A1WX and FS-A1WSX.

The Panasonic FS-A1WSX is the last MSX2+ made by Panasonic. It was the successor of FS-A1WX and incorporated few changes like S-Video output, no tape support, color printer support and a improved A1 Internal Cockpit software with a Kanji color word processor.

En 1990 salió al mercado el último ordenador MSX oficial, el MSX Turbo R. En esta ocasión Panasonic fue el único fabricante se lanzó a esta aventura, aunque Sony y Sanyo estuvieron a punto de lanzar sus respectivos modelos que finalmente nunca vieron la luz. Panasonic desarrolló 2 modelos distintos, el ST (256kb) y el GT (512kb).

El MSX Turbo R era un ordenador con unas prestaciones técnicas altas, ya que incorporaba un procesador de 16-bits (compatible con el Z80 de los anteriores MSX). Tenía muchas cosas interesantes, como un sistema operativo en entorno gráfico llamado MSX View, procesadores de texto, reproductores de midi, etc.

Sin embargo, su precio era un incoveniente, ya que por un poco más podían comprarse PCs aún más avanzados. Además, este ordenador presentó algunos problemas de compatibilidad con muchos juegos y programas de anteriores MSX y muchos de los periféricos de los antiguos MSX ya no le servían.

Todo esto hizo que, al igual que el MSX-2+, sólo se distribuyera en Japón. De hecho, el ordenador solo tiene versión japonesa de la BIOS y su teclado no soporta los conjuntos de caracteres internacionales. En Europa y Brasil se vendieron algunas unidades mediante la importación, aunque a precios muy elevados.

Panasonic cesó la producción del MSX Turbo R en 1992 cuando lanzaron al mercado su consola 3DO. El MSX Turbo-R tuvo algunas ampliaciones, como una tarjeta de sonido OPL4 , una tarjeta de alta resolución Yamaha V9990, etc.

Este ordenador fue el último de la generación MSX, pero miles de seguidores mantienen vivo el espíritu MSX al seguir programando para este gran estándar y rememorándolo en reuniones y ferias anuales.
